UTSOA First Semester Final
The basis of this structure is inspired by a grand jeté en tournant (aka tour jeté), a ballet jump that combines a high leap with an airborne turn. The structure is built to allow a marble to run through it in sharp, quick motions, mimicking the tour jeté. The marble starts high up on top of a protrusion and drops down, referencing the kick up, and then turns in a full circle. Although the movement pathways are distinctly angular, the rest of the design incorporates lots of curves and petal-like shapes to allude to the theme of the dances in which this move can be found, specifically Waltz of the Flowers. Additionally, the interiors of the structure are adorned with three different shades of pink to reference the tiered dresses that ballerinas wear in this dance. The orientation of the petals and color patterns reflect the direction of the movement and “guide” the marble in its path.
